U.S. Constitution, Amendment II
A well-regulated Militia being necessary
to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms,
shall not be infringed.
According to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, in 2009 there was a "Violent Crime" commited every 23.9 seconds in the United States.
Obviously, that number does not include unreported crimes.
In Missouri there were 491.8 "Violent Crimes" reported for every 100,000 people in 2009.
These numbers are probably higher because all law enforcement agencies,
do not submit data to the UCR.
Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses which involve force or threat of force.

If you do the math, the average equates to, over 3.3 Violent Crimes per hour,
24 hours a day, every day of the year, in Missouri.
